Producer and marketer court - bound over A Kiss of Dearth
Film producer and director Jim Show has said he would put Goodluck Ezeka (Lucky) behind bars for the marketing of A kiss of Death. Show narrated his story , unveiling an ordeal quite common in the Nigerian movie industry.
‘I produced and directed A Kiss of Death in 2002. Events overlapped till 2004 when Julius Obaze contacted Lucky who was working as business consultant for Ossy Ventures , located at 40 Ereko, Idumota , Lagos”, Jim said. “There was still work left to do on the tape. I was quite busy. Obaze had to take care of things. Lucky signed a deal with him stating that he, Lucky, would pay five hundred thousand naira and take the movie for marketing, owning the rights. What Lucky gave to Obaze to give to me were two bounced cheques. I’ve gotten him arrested twice, but he got bailed. But he must go to jail. His options are two : to pay me or face civil and criminal charges”. Buttressing his point, Show provided two Citizens Bank cheques, bounced, and the contract document ,both bearing the signatures of Goodluck Ezeka.
Goodluck seems to have been working as business consultant representing Ossy Ventures, as certain documents suggest; but Ossy Ezeka dismisses this, saying that Ossy Ventures is his private business and that at no time has his elder brother ,Lucky , been part of the business. He maintains: “I don’t do business with fraudulent people; I don’t do business with my brother. Even the film sef was marketed by Rayale Corporate and not Ossy Ventures”. Show agrees that A Kiss of Death was marketed by Royal Corporate but insists that Ossy Ventures and Ossy Ezeka are not totally exonerated.
