NFC announces selected scripts for sponsorship

As part the effort to improve story contents of Nigerian films and make them compete favourably at international Film festivals, the Nigerian film Corporation has announced for successful feature scripts out of thirty received in a nationally competition last year. They are; Arugba Osun by Yinka Ogun, Damben Karshe by Jakadiya pictures, Escravos by Emeka Dike and African Bronze Head by Femi Lasode.

Announcing this at the public presentation of the scripts at the NFC office, National Theatre, Lagos, the chairman of the script selection committee and international actress, Mrs Taiwo Ajai Lycett, pointed out that the leading scripts; Arugba Osun and Damben Karshe, scored four and three nominations respectively, while Escravos and African Bronze Head, had two nominations each.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the NFC, Mr Afolabi Adesanya, said the scripts, which dwelt on tourism, anti-corruption, Niger-Delta/oil companies and local oil communities relationships as well as the qualities of selflessness, have great potentials for export and international acceptance.

Adesanya, who added that a short film, entitled Duty, by Muritala Sule will be sponsored by the NFC, while another one, Living Years will be recommended to the National Film and Video Censors Board,disclosed that the call for script project for the year 2006 is now on and that entries will be accepted until April 18th 2006.

He said that Nigerian entries will henceforth be annually pre-qualified for Sithengi film festival in partnership with Hubert Bals Fund [of Rotterndam film festival, Netherlands] and Gotenburg film festival fund [of Gotenburg film festival, Sweden]. He announced vacancies also for film directors and producers and editors for the production stages of the project.
