Amodu has the final say – Amokachi

Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi has said contrary to popular opinion, he will not be having any run-ins with boss Shuaibu Amodu.

Worries have been expressed across the country that Amokachi's famous temperament could lead to friction as he works with his former boss.

Although he admitted that he had been a hothead, the former Everton striker told KickOffNigeria.com that that would not be a problem as he had matured.

Of course I and the other coaches will make our input, but he is the boss so he will have to make the final decision in everything

"Most of the great players in the world are hot headed," Amokachi argued. "Look at Maradona, Stoitckov, or even Zidane. But as you grow older, you learn to change.

"I have learnt a lot in a short while and I am more mature, so there will be no problems between us."

Amokachi also pointed to his previous uneventful working relationship with former coach Austin Eguavoen.

"I know my position in the team as Amodu's assistant and that means that he has the final say in everything. After all, I worked with Austin Eguavoen and there were no problems between us.

"Of course I and the other coaches will make our input, but he is the boss so he will have to make the final decision in everything, and he has a lot of experience so we trust him to do the right thing."

Yobo banks on home advantage for UEFA Cup place

Super Eagles defender, Joseph Yobo feels it is imperative that Everton make the most of their remaining home fixtures.

The Toffees have three games left in which to secure European football for next season, with two of those matches set to take place at Goodison Park.

David Moyes' men welcome sixth-placed Aston Villa to Merseyside on Sunday in the knowledge that the Villans have closed to within three points of them in the race for a UEFA Cup spot.

Everton will then travel to Arsenal a week later, before ending the season with a visit from Newcastle.

With so much riding on the end of season run-in, Nigerian international Yobo is well aware that the club cannot afford to slip-up now.

"Towards the end of the season you always want to be playing most of your games at home and we've got that opportunity now, so hopefully we can take advantage of that," the defender told Everton's official website.

"We're playing for the right to reach the UEFA Cup so we are all playing for something and that makes it very exciting."

After occupying a spot in the top five for the whole of 2008, Yobo admits that it would be a devastating blow were the club to miss out on a return to the UEFA Cup.

The Toffees won eight of their 10 matches in the competition this season, only falling short on penalties against Fiorentina in the last 16, and are keen to launch another European campaign next season.

"If you'd have given us fifth at the start of the season, we'd have taken it," said Yobo.

"If you look at the way the Everton team has been going this season, we've been fourth or fifth for quite a long time now so it's going to be disappointing if we don't qualify for Europe.

"Once you've played in Europe, most players want to do that every year. We've tasted it a few times now, and we know what it's like and we want to get there again."

Al Ahly clinch 33rd Egyptian league title

Al Ahly clinched a record 33rd Egyptian league title after their scoreless draw with Baladeya in Tanta on Monday.

The draw took Ahly's points tally to 63 with five matches remaining. The result puts them out of reach of their closest contenders.

Ahli lead second-placed Ismaili and Al-Gaish, who both have a game in hand, with an unattainable 22 points.

The title was Al Ahly's fourth in a row in the Egypt premier league.

They now have set their sights on ending the season unbeaten, having won 19 of their 25 matches to date with six draws.
