How Abakaliki rounded up Star Trek
• Trek to be broadcast on national TV from Wednesday

It was an exciting and memorable night for youths and the young at heart in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State last Saturday as Star Trek’s ten city national music concert tour sponsored by Star lager came to a glorious end in their city. The concert which had kept Awka, capital of Anambra State, awake the previous night, with superlative performances from Ruggedman, 2Shot, Felix Duke and the Star Quest 2007 & 2008 winning bands, Jewels & Diamonds respectively did not need any further introduction to draw fun lovers from their homes. So, from about 6pm, all roads in town led to the popular Township Stadium and when, the gates eventually opened, it was as if there was a prize to be given for attendance. It was a multitude of a crowd, and, all available seats in the stadium were completely taken over. Of course they had a justifiable reason to compete for space because Star was fulfilling another promise of sharing the brighter life by bringing the best of Nigeria’s music stars to them. P-Square was in town, just like African China and Ruggedman, not to talk of 2shotz.The Diamonds were literally at home and for the second time during the ten city tour were treated like superstars. Signs of the diamonds’ popularity started manifesting at the popular Grace court Hotel, when notable citizens of the town not only acknowledged their presence there but, confessed to have voted for them during the last Star Quest, music talent hunt. To say that the town rocked would be stating the obvious. Like in other cities where the Trek had been, Abakaliki youths with music talents were given an opportunity to showcase their talents. Gbenga Adeyinka, the MC was also at hand thrilling the crowd with hilarious jokes and by the time, the “real” stars came on stage, the stadium erupted in ecstasy. They danced and swayed their hips. P-Square did all their popular songs, African China did his popular songs too but also used the occasion to introduce his very political upcoming album “Fire Burn Them”. Ruggedman did his songs and a collabo with 2shots. Everybody danced until about 5.30am in the morning with calls for Star not to forget Abakaliki, when venues are chosen for Star Trek in 2009. So ended, the exciting ten city music concert tour with the best fo Nigeria ’s music stars having rocked virtually all regions of the country and kept youths awake all night. It was another confirmation of Star lager as the best promoter of music in the country today.

According to Sampson Oloche, Senior brand Manager, Star, the Trek which began in Uyo on May 30th has lived up to expectations with star lager sharing the brighter life as promised. He promised that a recording of these performances at all the concert towns would be put on national television from Wednesday July 2nd ,2008 to enable all Nigerians have a feel of how Star lager took Nigeria’s current wave making musicians to thrill large and excited crowds in ten popular Nigerian cities in five weekends.
